ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m an image hustler. I appropriate images from the outside world, but mostly conjure up scenes from my own head, going by intuition, “letting the canvas tell me what it wants” as I’ve heard other abstract artists say. I play around with symbols, iconography, ambiguity... layers of paint, glue, cut up magazine ads, pencil and old print newspaper. I take photos with my cellphone camera, manipulating them with apps available to anybody. More than repetition and formula, I am interested in varied rhythm, mood, improvisation and new structures. Anolog or digital, my artwork corresponds to my attitude and taste—eclectic and mercurial. I draw inspiration from many sources... The irreverence and spontaneity of Dada, DIY garage rock, autodidactic folk and so-called primitive or outsider art... The moody introspection of jazz and gestural markings of Abstract Expressionism... The elegance and ambience of Minimalism... The weird truth of absurdism, and the gritty reality of noir fiction. I have no formal academic art degree, no pedigree. I am self-taught, I am a mongrel. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, at heart I’m an East Coaster, but for the past twenty years I have made my home in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like Sin City with its neon and kitsch, always in flux, I try not to take myself too seriously, finding beauty in things barely held together, and a kinship with those who feel they’re not quite at home.

Thank you for visiting. Please take a look around. I hope my artwork resonates in one way or another. Spark a different thought, a feeling, a notion. That’s really the whole point of this. Plus, you spending some of your discretionary income on my artwork—that, too. Thanks in advance.
